The Blood Moon of 2015
Could it be that Joel is speaking of the blood moon on September 27th, 2015 when he says " The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible Day of The Lord come? " Joel 2:31. A blood moon of course refers to the reddish color of the moon during a lunar eclipse. But we've always had lunar eclipses. What makes this one so special?
First of all, there won't be another lunar eclipse until 2033. Jesus said in Matthew 24:32 when the branch of the fig tree puts forth it's leaves know that summer is near. The fig tree is symbolic of Israel. Israel became a nation again in 1948. Israel put forth it's leaves in 1948. He goes on to say in verse 33 that when you see all these things know that it is near... at the doors! What is near? The great and terrible Day of The Lord!
Jesus goes on to say in verse 34 that this generation will not pass away until all these things are fulfilled. A generation according to Psalms 90:10 is 70 years. And maybe even 80 by reason of strength. An interesting fact... A World Health Organization survey found 70 to 80 years to be the average life expectancy at birth of the global population in 2015 -http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2014/world-health-statistics-2014/en/
Could it be that our generation is the one that will witness the second coming of Christ? It has been 68 years since the branch of the fig tree has put forth it's leaves! The next blood moon in 2033 puts us beyond a generation!
On September 23, 2015 our world entered Jubilee, the first year of a new 7 year Shmita cycle. Shimita means "release" while Jubilee means "liberation". These are Jewish terms both of which lead up to the ultimate "escape" (Rapture 1 Thes 4:15-18) prophesied to occur just before the time Antichrist confirms Israel's 7 year "Peace agreement (Dan 9:27, 1 Thes 5:2,3 2 Thes 2:6-8).
But why would our Lord Jesus concern Himself with Jewish holidays, Shmitas, Jubilees and cycles of 7? After all, He is Christ. Founder and leader of our Christian faith. Remember He is also a Jew. In Luke 5:17 He says " I have not come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to destroy but to fulfill." "Assuredly, until heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled!"
